Air Brake Endorsement "Z"

This seminar is conducted by an Ontario Safety League certified Instructor, totaling 12 hours. It will introduce students to the air brake system of a tractor-trailer combination, providing them with the theory and expertise to understand characteristics of air brake systems, brake system operating demands and air brake compliance. Students will learn how to conduct an inspection of an air brake system, identifying defects, problems, and abnormalities. They will learn to conduct functional tests of the airbrake system to be able to indicate whether a vehicle is in compliance with safety regulations or if defective conditions are present in the system.

The Air Brake Adjustment module will give students knowledge of how the air brakes on a vehicle can be adjusted to operate within the rules. The Air Brake Manual is supplied by us.

Regulations (HTA, TTA, CVOR, etc.)

This seminar will cover what procedures will be conducted at inspection stations and how the student should conduct him or herself. Students will also gain the knowledge and familiarity to decipher the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Report.

Trip Planning

Students will learn the importance and gain an understanding of preplanning their trip. This seminar will cover the importance of vehicle and document preparation, fueling tips, layover locations, route planning and obstacles, and traffic and weather conditions avoidance.

Cargo Securement

This seminar is designed to give students the knowledge and ability to demonstrate all issues regarding safety and regulations. Students will learn how to determine correctly and safely the load that is being transported. The seminar also includes how to properly tarp and secure loads.

Weights and Dimensions

This seminar will give students the tools to safely determine the capacity of a vehicle combination and the allowable tire and axle weight.

Border Crossing

This seminar will give students the knowledge and tools of what to expect when entering the U.S. It will also cover re-entering Canada, pertaining to inward manifests, load clearance, laws, brokers, rules for personal entry, document requirements, and how to complete a FAST card application form.

Dangerous Goods Transportation

This is a very important seminar for students. This seminar will cover driver requirements that are required by the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Federal Regulations and the Ontario Dangerous Goods Transportation Act. It will also cover the consequences of non-compliance.

Students will learn to understand various classes and packaging groups of hazardous materials and the rules that apply to handling and hauling dangerous good. They will learn how to respond safely if an incident or spill occurs and how to protect themselves and others. They will also learn how to correctly handle shipping papers and maintain security when hauling hazardous materials.

Hours of Service

This seminar will focus on the importance of properly recording hours of service. Students will learn the hours of service rules in the Highway Traffic Act and Regulations in Canada and the U.S. This knowledge will give students the skills to obey these rules and understand the legal requirements for hours of work. It will also cover how to fill out log books and documents needed when out on the road.

This seminar will allow students to have the knowledge and understanding of what documents are required when out on the road.

Coupling and Uncoupling

This seminar will give students the confidence and skills to properly couple and uncouple a trailer.

Pre-Trip Inspection

This seminar focuses on the importance of a pre-trip inspection. Students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and practice to thoroughly and efficiently inspect their vehicle for safety.

5th Wheel and Rear Axel Adjustment

Students will learn how to effectively adjust the position of the 5th wheel and bogies.

Backing

This seminar will give the students the proper skills to confidently back up a tractor-trailer combination.

Driving

Students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and practice to efficiently and safely manage a tractor and trailer combination under all kinds of traffic, road, and weather conditions.

P.D.I.C. Defensive Driving Techniques

This seminar will allow students to have the knowledge and insights to prepare themselves for safe driving in all conditions. They will learn proper professional driving techniques that they can apply to good driving habits.

Some topics will include; seeing and being seen, having heightened awareness, managing speed and having the right attitude.

This seminar will also cover the importance of safe winter driving. It will give the students the right tools and confidence to adjust their driving safely and looking for signs of dangerous conditions.

NOTE: Students will be supplied with the Professional Driver Improvement seminar Manual and EYE On Defensive Driving Booklet.
