Course Details

Our training program includes a mixture of in-truck and in-class training that provides all of the essential skills and knowledge that transportation companies require from entry-level drivers. We are offering the “AZ Program” suitable for entry-level drivers with no commercial driving experience.

This course will total a combination of 200 hours of in class and in truck training. This program is approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. The A-Z Program is delivered using the Commercial Truck Driver Training Standard (Class A)

  • ONE-ON-ONE TRUCK DRIVING LESSONS (BASIC DRIVING TECHNIQUES / VEHICLE COMPONENTS & SYSTEMS)
  • TRACTOR TRAILER OFF-ROAD TASKS AND MANOEUVRES
  • EMPLOYMENT IN THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE INDUSTRY
  • DEFENSIVE DRIVING TECHNIQUES P.D.I.C.
  • CARGO DOCUMENTS, PAPERWORK, & REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
  • VEHICLE INSPECTION ACTIVITIES
  • HOURS OF SERVICE COMPLIANCE – LOG BOOKS
  • CARGO SECUREMENT & LOSS PREVENTION
  • HANDLING EMERGENCIES & ACCIDENT PROCEDURE

Duration & Schedule

The period of this course will be approximately five weeks from the course start date. We offer weekly course start dates and flexible business hours of in-truck training lessons (seven days a week 8:00 am – 8:00 pm).

Start Date: Every Monday

Our tractors and trailers are newer and up-to-date. Participants will have a choice of the training vehicle; 10 or 13 speed transmission vehicle, Mack or Freightliner tractors as well as automatic transmission Volvo or Mack tractors.

Truck Training Academy provides one-on-one training tailored to each individual on a large training area suitable to practice coupling, uncoupling, backing, and parallel parking.

Training Areas

In the Yard Training:

  • Vehicle Inspection
  • Coupling and Uncoupling
  • Backing on the dock and Parallel Parking
  • 5th Wheel & Rear Axle Training
  • Knowledge of Vehicles Devices

On the Road Training:

  • Gear Shifting & Clutch Use
  • Maneuvers to Make Proper Turns
  • City and highway driving

Use of our vehicles for Road Test:

  • Vehicle for the road test provided by the school as well as the appointment

Our staff is friendly, knowledgeable and has a wealth of experience within the transportation industry.

Our instructors have accumulated a tremendous amount of over the road miles driving commercial motor vehicles. Their combined driving experience includes U.S. border crossing, dry van, climate controlled freight, flatbed, tanker and transporting dangerous goods.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to confidently, competently and responsibly operate a commercial vehicle with “D-Z” license. The course content will include all aspects encompassing the safe and professional operation of a commercial vehicle.

AZ or DZ Driver Training

Commercial vehicle driver training, A-Z or D-Z, or individual seminars which do not require approval under the Ontario Career College Act 2005, may be offered to experienced drivers who need to brush up on their existing driving skills and obtain D-Z driver’s license.

All new drivers wishing to obtain an A-Z driver’s license after July 1 .2017 will have to successfully complete the Mandatory Entry-Level Taining Course (MELT) before attempting their Class A Road Test.

  • Hours of Service – Log Books
  • Boarder Crossing Procedure
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods

Important 'C' Class License

Once you hold an A-Z license you are able to drive A-Z and D-Z commercial vehicles. If you write and pass the beginner’s test for the C class license (city bus), you will obtain a C class license as well. You do not have to go for an additional C class road test at the Ministry of Transportation.
